Off Broadway Theatre
Phantom of the OBT 2008
The Off Broadway Theatre's current production is a funny spoof of The Phantom of the Opera. This is the second time they have played the Phantom of the OBT and deservedly so. At the end of the production my face hurt from smiling and laughing all night.
The cast is a truly talented bunch from top to bottom anchored by three skilled comic actors: Clarence Strohn, Mike Brown and Logan Rogan. They keep the laughs coming and truly know how to entertain an audience. The rest of the cast was strong as well and they all delivered a funny solid performance.
And... that's it for the review. What? No, seriously. It's a funny show and you should all go see it. Make your reservations right now at theobt.com.
I would like to spend the rest of this time talking about the OBT. As I walked in with my family last night to see the show, I felt the same thing I feel every time I walk into that building. I love being there. There is a great feel when you walk into that old building. It's comfortable. And I am not talking about the ample legroom and theatre seats that lean back. The entire atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed.
Another thing I like about going to the Off Broadway Theatre is I know I am going to be entertained. I know that the actors are going to give it their all to make me laugh. I also know they are going to have as much fun as the audience. The first show I did there was Forever Scrooge a few years ago with Eric Jensen, Jon Baty, Eric Armstrong and Ben Porter. It was truly one of the most fun productions I have ever taken part of. And every show after that as been a fun, positive experience. I love acting there.
I love seeing shows there. And not just the plays. You almost can't mention the OBT without mentioning the resident improv troupe: Laughing Stock (laughingstock.us). Truly some of the funniest people in the state take the stage at the OBT every Friday and Saturday night. Joining some of the actors mentioned above are Cody K. Carlson, Jesse Parent, Jon Baty, Joe Rogan and Russ Peacock among others. A guaranteed good time.
So, whether you check out Phantom of the OBT, Laughing Stock, or any production at the Off Broadway Theatre you can count on a great, casual atmosphere, talented casts and a fun night that will make your face hurt from laughing. Go to the OBT. You'll be glad you did.
