Hale Centre Theatre
Announces 2009 Season

Includes 2 Regional Premiers
"Curtains" and "Treasure Island"

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (May 7, 2008) Hale Centre Theatre (HCT), Utah's premiere family theatre, announced its schedule for the 2009 season today. The lineup, which features the regional premieres of "Curtains" and "Treasure Island," will open on New Year's Eve with the comedy "Cash on Delivery" and conclude with HCT's 24th annual production of "A Christmas Carol" in December 2009. HCT's schedule includes the following popular array of musicals and comedies:

"Cash on Delivery" Dec. 31, 2008 - Feb. 14, 2009
"Cash on Delivery" is a fast-paced comedy by British playwright, Michael Cooney. The story centers around an unemployed man, Eric Swan, who assumes identities and disabilities to collect government assistance checks. The con seems fail proof until Swan's caseworker shows up. Swan is forced to enlist other creative characters to play the unfortunate souls he's created. HCT last performed this play in 2000.

"Phantom" Feb. 24 - April 18, 2009
"Phantom" features story and music by American composers, Maury Yeston and Artha Kopit. This musical retelling of the story of the Phantom looks deeper into the man's tortured life than the Andrew Lloyd Webber version. The spectacle of dark catacombs against the opulence of the grand opera will inspire full-use of HCT's million-dollar stage.

REGIONAL PREMIERE "Treasure Island" April 28 - June 6, 2009
Famed pirate, Long John Silver, and young Jim Hawkins embark on the adventure of a lifetime in HCT's regional premiere of "Treasure Island." Robert Louis Stephenson's classic speaks of friendship, betrayal, danger, tom-foolery and buried treasure. The adventure is adapted by Tony Award-winner, Ken Ludwig, who also authored "Lend Me a Tenor" and "Crazy for You."

"Hello, Dolly!" June 16 - Aug. 1, 2009
Winner of a 10 Tony Awards, "Hello, Dolly!" ran on Broadway for 2,844 performances in the 1960s. The hit, written by Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart, features the song classics, "Before the Parade Passes By," "Elegance" and "Hello, Dolly!" along with elaborate costumes, sets and dancing. The screen adaptation, starring Barbara Streisand and Walter Matthau, won three Academy Awards including best music.

"The Scarlet Pimpernel" Aug. 11 - Sept. 26, 2009
A Hale Centre Theatre favorite, "The Scarlet Pimpernel" is the staged adaptation of Baroness Orczy's captivating tale of intrigue, deception and romance. Nan Knighton's lyrics and Frank Wildhorn's music tell the story of an unassuming hero during the French Revolution who helps save aristocrats from the guillotine.

REGIONAL PREMIERE "Curtains" Oct. 5 - Nov. 21, 2009
"Curtains," ending its run on Broadway June 29, 2008, will be a regional premiere at HCT. The Tony Award-winner and nine-time Tony-nominated production centers on a murder among a musical cast. And anyone in the company could be a suspect. The Boston police detective assigned to the case almost finds himself more interested in the play's success than solving the murder. The music in "Curtains" is by renowned John Kander and Fred Ebb with book by Rupert Holmes and Peter Stone.

"A Christmas Carol" Nov. 28 - Dec. 23, 2009
In its 24th year at HCT, "A Christmas Carol" recreates Charles Dickens' beloved story. Acclaimed as one of the nation's finest Christmastime traditions, the adaptation features script by Richard G. Wilkins and music by Barlow Bradford.
